As part of the Magnificent 7 that took place in Birmingham, England, a Fight of the Year candidate stood out as Ekow Essuman scored an impressive 10th round knockout over previously unbeaten Owen Cooper to win a welterweight championship.

You seldom see fighters just simply letting it go the way these two did, with breathtaking back and forth action between these two welterweights. Essuman started taking control from the middle rounds, scoring a knockdown in the 6th. However, Cooper would come back and have Essuman down in the 9th and seemed to stop the momentum temporarily. Essuman, being the tough welterweight he is, started strong in the 10th and rocked Cooper badly with a barrage of punches that put Cooper down and forced referee Bob Williams to stop the fight the second Cooper hit the canvas.

It was a very impressive win for Essuman in what will be a contender for the Fight of the Year in 2024, as he moves on to bigger and better opportunities down the line in the welterweight division. He’ll likely need to step up before he contends for a world title, but be certain brings excitement that makes him a must watch, especially for fans across the Atlantic.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
