In front of a sellout crown at the Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia native Jaron “Boots” Ennis scored a TKO win over David Avaneysan to retain his “belt” after he was handed the title via email in one of the most disgraceful and undeserving set of methods you could ever reward a fighter a “belt.” The fight was called off at the advice of the ringside physician in between rounds 5 and 6.
“Belt” circumstances aside, Ennis showed flashes of what he could be as be makes his move in the welterweight division. Showing a solid display of skills, he gradually wore down the durable Avaneysan, flooring him in the 5th to cap off a solid homecoming win for the hometown Philadelphia fighter.
Bigger things await the fighter known as “Boots” as he targets an eventually showdown with one of the pound-for-pound standouts in Terence Crawford, should Crawford take care of business against Israil Madrimov on August 3rd. There are also other fighters Ennis can pursue if he choose to.
Ennis now has options to prove he’s a worthy fighter and champion. Hopefully, the world sees him back in the ring real soon.
