In a hometown fight that disappointed many fans in front of a worldwide audience, Shakur Stevenson got a unanimous decision over an undeserving challenger Artem Harutyunyan in a fight that showed that Stevenson, although highly skilled, wasn’t good enough to get the job done in the correct way. The fight was Stevenson’s last fight with Top Rank Promotions as his contract with the long-time respected promotion company he had been with since his career started expired.
It has been reported that Stevenson turned a 5-fight, $15 dollar offer from Top Rank, which would have kept him on their roster. Just like how players in the NFL, NBA, and MLB become free agents in their respective sports, Stevenson is set to be a free agent where many promoters can make him offers and he gets the option to choose from multiple agents much like athletes in other sports get to choose between multiple teams. Despite two consecutive non-pleasing performances against fighters who had zero business getting title shots from in the first place, Stevenson’s name will be a top target for all rival promoters who have an interest in signing him.

Stevenson does have an impressive resume at 27 years old. He has held multiple world championships in multiple weight classes. His professional boxing record in 22 fights is 22-0 with 10 of them ending in a knockout. He may also be apealing to an agent in another way, he is currently engaged to Lyric Ragston. She is known in the music world as “Young Lyric.” There is an added appeal to Stevenson as boxing and the rap world have a definite crossover.
Despite him being a free agent, one does have to wonder what his market value is after two fights where he couldn’t win the correct way, against fighters who didn’t deserve title shots to begin with. It’s up for debate whether someone will pay him close to the offer Top Rank gave him.
The bidding war for him begins.
