The Chicago Cubs have had a roller coaster season full of injuries, bad performances, and terrible luck. They currently find themselves in last place in the NL Central but have put together a great stretch of games and they are really showing what this team can do when healthy. So In this article I will show you the top trade targets the Cubs should go after to take them to the next level in my opinion.
#1 Isaac Paredes

First we have Isaac Paredes, Isaac is currently on the Tampa Bay Rays and having a good season putting up a slash line of 261/364/459, with a OPS of 823! This move would clog up 3rd base a bit with players deserving time such as Christopher Morel, and Miles Mastrobouni. But getting a player like Isaac at 3rd would be a game changer for the Cubs.
#2 Taylor Ward

Now we have Taylor Ward, Ward is an outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels who can also play 3rd, which as stated before is a position of need for the Cubs. Ward is having a down season putting up a slash line of 229/314/403 with a OPS of 717. Even if Ward doesn’t turn it around this year he would still be a really good piece of the bench.
#3 Alex Bregman
Bregman is another 3rd baseman but this time for the Houston Astros. Bregman is definitely having a down year but could still be a huge help to the Cubs. Bregman is putting up a slash line of 256/316/404 with a 730 OPS. Although the Astros probably won’t be looking to sell the Cubs could still make a compelling offer with CF/1st baseman Cody Bellinger. Since the Cubs have such a stacked outfield with Mike Tauchman coming back soon losing Bellinger would not be the worst thing ever especially if you add Alex Bregman.
#4 Elias Diaz

Next we probably have the most realistic trade option Elias Diaz. Diaz is a catcher for the Colorado Rockies and with the Cubs biggest hole probably being starting catching Diaz would be a huge addition. Diaz is having a great year putting up a slash line of 286/330/403 with a 733 OPS which is a huge upgrade over what the Cubs have now. Diaz would not only bring a great bat but steady defense as well.
Getting any of these players would be such a huge help to the Cubs who I believe can contend. I will be making a second article soon about pitchers the Cubs should also target.
