In an exciting fight that had a KO of the year candidate, Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez came off the canvas to score an impressive seventh round KO over the very highly respected Juan Francisco Estrada to win two super flyweight championship belts, putting the boxing world on notice that he’s now a legitimate pound-for-pound star.

Rodriguez showed his skills as he was able to build an early lead, which included a knockdown in the fourth round.  However, Estrada showed why he’s a future Hall of Famer as he was able to drop Rodriguez surprisingly in the 6th.  However, in the 7th, Rodriguez lived up to the nickname “Bam” when he landed the perfect body shot that sent Estrada down and out for the count.

For a sport that’s about how you win the fight, Rodriguez has proven himself to be impressive so far in his career, fighting and giving his best on the big occasion so far.  Saturday night in Phoenix was another example of this as he has now put himself on the list of the pound-for-pound best.

He’s only 24, and he hasn’t begun to scratch the surface of his full potential.  Get ready, fight fans!  Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez is getting started and is only going to get better from here.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
