After calling out pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford on a podcast for reasons he won’t say why, junior welterweight Teofimo Lopez proved why he had no business mentioning Crawford’s name as he was unimpressive in winning a unanimous decision over Steve Claggett in a fight that had no business taking place. Two of the three judges gave lopez every round (120-108), while one judge found a round to give to Claggett (119-109) in a fight that was about as easy to score for any one who understands how to score fights.
The fight featured an embarrassing and disgraceful outfit, dance, and ringwalk by Lopez that has the great Hector “Macho” Camacho spinning in his grave.

For a “top” fighter who called out and slandered another the way Lopez did to Crawford and facing a tailor-made opponent style wise for him, Lopez basically did enough to win every round as Claggett didn’t offer much, but was very tough and durable in going the 12 round distance. This was Lopez’s chance to back up any claim he belongs in the same conversation as Crawford, or other fighters like Gervonta “Tank” Davis or Shakur Stevenson, and he basically refused to do anything of significance other than to just get the win.
For a fighter who intentionally cherry-picked his opponent like Lopez did because he doesn’t want to fight legit opponents, he didn’t take advantage of a gift wrapped opportunity in front of him to have an eye catching win.

Instead, he showed his unwillingness to get a conclusive win. The fight revealed how ordinary he really is. You need to be more than ordinary to deserve an opportunity against Crawford, Davis, or Stevenson. For now, Lopez needs to forget about slandering the top fighters, quit the dancing, and go back to the drawing board.
