The Cincinnati Reds travel to St. Louis to take on the Cardinals in a 4 game division series. The Cardinals are currently second in the division, behind the Milwaukee Brewers. The Reds are currently in last place, but still only 2.5 games out of a playoff spot. The Reds get a much needed return, Noelvi Marte was reinstated off the suspension list and returned to the lineup.

Game 1:

The Reds have won 10 game ones over their last 12 series, but have failed to capitalize and win the series in the last 3 since their 8 game win streak. Thursday night would have Miles Mikolas of the Cardinals taking on Andrew Abbott. Jonathan India would remain scorching hot with a lead off single in the top of the 1st inning. Elly De La Cruz is getting hot as well, he would rope a triple to right center, scoring India and giving the Reds an early 1-0 lead.

The Reds would fail to score De La Cruz. Andrew Abbott would work him self in and out of a base loaded jam and escape without giving up a run. Top 2, Jonathan India remains hot, ripping a double to right field, scoring Will Benson and extending the lead, 2-0.

Abbott would toss a scoreless 2nd inning. Top of the 3rd, Spencer Steer would hit an automatic double over the left field wall. Nick Martini would follow with a double of his own, scoring Steer. Noelvi Marte would follow up Martini with another double, scoring Martini. Marte would later score on a Will Benson sacrifice fly. Reds lead 5-0. Top of the 3rd, Reds center fielder Stuart Fairchild would add to his highlight real defensively, robbing Paul Goldschmidt of a 2 run home run. Later Nolan Arenado would hit a 2 run home run off Abbott, cutting the lead to 5-2. The Reds would add on in the 4th, Elly De La Cruz notched his 38th stolen base. That’s how the night would end. Sam Moll would toss a scoreless 9th as the Reds win 11-4. Andrew Abbott struggled with his command tonight, but managed to power through. He would pitch 5 innings, only allow 2 hits 2 earned runs, but would walk 6 and only striking out 2. Sam Moll continues to be a great relief option for Cincinnati. Since he was acquired at the trade deadline last season, he’s only allowed 5 runs in 43 innings pitched. Jonathan India has been RED HOT in June. He’s batting .386, slugging .591 with 12 doubles and 16 RBIs. Over the last 11 games, India has 11 doubles.

Bottom 3rd, Montas would run into a little trouble, Michael Siani would double off the wall, Wilson Contreras would walk. Hunter Greene

Lance Lynn

Game 4:

Hunter Greene looks to bounce back after a rough start last time out, where he would actually vomit on the mound. In the 3rd inning, Jonathan India would double again, his 8th straight game, extending his hitting streak to 12 games.

Greene would find himself in some trouble in the 5th, with runners on 1st and 2nd, Alec Burleson would single to right, scoring the runner at 2nd and giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Pitching was great on both side, the Reds just couldn’t capitalize on any opportunities in this one. Hunter Greene would only last 4.2 innings in this one, allowing 4 hits, 2 walks, 1 earned runs with 6 strikeouts. Sam Moll would allow only his 4th run this season on a run he left on after being relieved by Fernando Cruz. Buck Farmer and Alexis Diaz would each throw scoreless innings in the 8th and 9th but the Reds just couldn’t get any runners home. Lance Lynn would notch his 1,000th career strikeout as a Cardinal, just the 6th Cardinals to do so. Reds split the series, losing Sunday afternoon 2-0. In the 2 Reds wins this series, Cincinnati out hit the Cardinals 29-15 and outscored the Cardinals 20-8. The Reds get an off day on Monday, they will travel to the Bronx for a 3 game series against the New York Yankees. The Yankees are 10-10 in their last 20, but are losers of 7-10.

Tuesday’s Probables:

Graham Ashcraft: 4-4 5.45 ERA (8.56 ERA in last 3 starts)

Luis Gill: 9-3 3.15 ERA (10.97 ERA in last 3 starts)

How long can Jonathan India stay hot? How will Elly De La Cruz perform in the bright lights of New York? Can Graham Ashcraft bounce back after being sent down and having his worst start of the season since being called back up?
