When the Bears finally decided to trade QB Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers a new era was beginning to set in at Halas Hall.
Consensus #1 overall QB prospect Caleb Williams was the target. When he was finally selected at the NFL Draft all of Chicago was embracing their new face of the franchise potentially, but things need to be put into perspective.
Williams is still a rookie learning the playbook and playing against NFL defenses. So it came as no surprise to hear that day two of OTAs, with the media in attendance for the first time, that Williams struggled to find receivers. His passes were a little behind or didn’t even come out in some instances.
The Bears and Williams both know there is a lot invested in him becoming something that has eluded this charter franchise since its inception; A franchise signal caller. General Manager Ryan Poles and Head Coach Matt Eberflus know it is going be a journey, but that is why the Bears invested so much on the offensive side of the ball.
The Bears added running back DeAndre Swift, Tight End Gerald Everett, traded for WR Keenan Allen, and drafted Rome Odunze at #9 in this years draft. With a history of legendary defenses, the Bears look to flip the script and join the modern NFL, with what is anticipated to be a must watch offense this season.
