The Daytona Tortugas have a nice crop of young upcoming talent. The Reds Low A affiliate boasts a handful of top 30 prospects led by SS Ricardo Cabrera and Catcher Alfredo Duno.

Ricardo Cabrera is the number 9 ranked prospect in the Reds organization. Signed out of Venezuela in 2022 at the age of 17, Cabrera was the number 3 ranked international prospect in his class. The 6’0 shortstop signed for $2.3 million on January 15, 2022. Cabrera has line drive power to both gaps and above average speed for his size. In 117 at bats this season, he sports a batting average of .265, 3 home runs and 3 stolen bases. With his arm strength, a move to 3rd base could a more permanent option as he continues to fill out his frame.

Alfredo Duno is the number 10 ranked prospect in the Reds organization currently. The number 4 ranked international prospect of the 2023 class singed with Cincinnati for $3.1 million at 17 years of age. Since 2012, Duno is just one of three catchers to be ranked in the top 5 in international pools. Duno is a kid in a man’s body. The now 18 year old Venezuelan stands at 6’2 and 210 pounds. Alfredo has the consistent ability to barrel the baseball and make loud contact with loads of power. For his size, he’s shockingly agile and boasts a cannon of an arm behind the dish. The Reds feel confident he will blossom into their next top catching prospect. This season, Duno is batting .270 with 3 home runs.

Esmith Pineda is the 28th prospect in the Reds farm system. The 19 year old 5’11” outfielder shows an ability to consistently barrel up the baseball with some pop, yet the home run numbers aren’t there as he hits a lot of line drives. Pineda has the arm strength to play the corner outfield but he’s not quite athletic enough to play in centerfield. Pineda is off to a slow start in 2024 batting just .124 with 1 home run and 2 stolen bases.

Adam Serwinowski is the 30th ranked prospect in the farm system. The 6’5” lefty came into the organization with a high 80’s to 90 mph fastball. He has since added mass to his frame and currently tops his fastball out in the mid to upper 90’s and power curve that shows plus potential. This season he is 1-0 with a 1.85 ERA in 24.1 innings in 7 starts. If he could develop a 3rd pitch and start to command the zone more efficiently, he could show back end to middle of the rotation potential on a ML roster in the future.

Anyer Laureano is a 21 year old pitching prospect with electric stuff. Laureano was used as a starter in the ACL in 2023 but is primarily used out of the bullpen. This season, Laureano sports an ERA at just 0.89 in 11 games with 30 strikeouts while opponents are batting just .130 against him in 20.1 innings pitched. Command can lack at times as he has average strikeout to walk rate. The stuff is there for Anyer, his SO/9 is at 13.28 but his 6.2 BB/9 needs improvement.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
