Anybody who is involved in the world of baseball knew about Paul Skenes debut and chances are they were excited for it. If you are wondering, yes, I am the golf writer here at the We Like Sportz but I am also an avid baseball and huge Pittsburgh Pirate fan. So let’s take a deep dive into Paul Skenes Debut and also talk about the incredible game that came with it Paul’s debut.
College life

Paul was a very hyped prospect the second he was drafted by the Pirates and as much as a massive MLB fan that I am, I do not watch much college baseball. When the Pirates drafted Skenes I was actually more in favor that they drafted Dylan Crews but the more I found out about Paul the more I liked him. He seemed like a true professional and a master of his craft. He was playing baseball at Air Force but once LSU found out his talent they couldn’t pass up on him. He was drafted to the Pirates and dominated the minors having an ERA of .099 leading up to his call up. Now that you know about Paul let’s talk about his actual debut.

the debut
Paul electrified the Pittsburgh crowd by striking out leadoff hitter Mike Tauchman with four fastballs in the at bat going over 100 mph. He then worked out of a bases loaded one out jam and got out of the second inning. In the 4th he then gave up a homer to Nico Horner but bounced back and finished the inning. He had a rough start to the 5th and got yanked then but received a massive standing ovation from the Pirates Faithful. The Pirates ended up winning this game 10-9 in a crazy one with a massive rain delay. Connor Joe, Yasmani Grandal, Michael A. Taylor, Andrew Mccutchen, and O’Neil Cruz all homered in this game. David Bednar gave up one in the ninth to make it tight but the Renegade ended up getting it done and closing it out.
A Class Act

My final thoughts on Paul is that he is a future star who will be a stud for the Pirates for an extended period of time. Him and other star young Pirates pitcher Jared Jones will make a combo that will be dominant for years. The one last thing I want to talk about is Paul Skenes showing up to the Locker Room in a full suit. Not only does this show who he is but it embodies how he is on the field which is a person who takes care of business but he is also a class act all the way. I hope to see Paul keep succeeding and dominating on an MLB level and as always, LETS GO BUCS.
