I think most NFL fans would be familiar with Tua Tagovailoa. Most even casual fans, when asked, could tell you that Tua is a quarterback, and that he plays for the Miami Dolphins. But, do most casual football fans know that Tua has a younger brother? Probably not.

Tua does in fact have a younger brother, Taulia Tagovailoa. He is a 5-10 200 pound quarterback who was a 3 year for Maryland in the Big 10. His 2023 stats in Maryland were 25 touchdowns with 11 interceptions and 3,377 total yards.

Taulia did some good things while wearing a Terrapin uniform. He is 1st in career passing yards with 11,256, with a career completion percentage o 67.1% and 76 career passing touchdowns. He also had 15 career passing games of 300 yards or more. He is also the All-Time passing Leader in the Big Ten with 11,256 yards.

Don’t Read Too Much Into This

Above, I gave you the list of his accomplishments, and they are nothing to sneeze at, but not everything in leis and ukuleles (see what I did there, he is from Hawaii). He participated in rookie minicamp last week for the Seattle Seahawks. He is undersized for your typical quarterback, and while scouts do give him credit for having quick feet, he is not fleet of foot with only 205 career rushing yards.

The real reason he was invited is because it is rookie minicamp, and the Arizona Cardinals don’t currently have a rookie quarterback on their roster. They needed one, and because Seattle did not sign him, he was available. The Cardinals currently have three quarterbacks on their roster; Kyler Murray the starter, Desmond Ridder, who is listed as the back-up, and Clayton Tune, the 2023 fifth round selection in 2023.

He is a tryout player, nothing more, nothing less. He is worth taking a look at and he did have a decent college career for a Big Ten school along with a familiar last name. Will the Cardinals see something in him to keep him around? The only way to know is to see him on the field. I, for one, am rooting for him.
