The Commanders took a huge risk on the day of the 2022 NFL Draft. Standing at #11 on the board with a WR inevitable and Chris Olave on the board it was for sure going to be the pick. However the Commanders and Saints surprised almost everybody when the Saints Traded #16 #98 and #120 in the 2022 draft for #11 in which they took Olave. 5 Picks later the Commanders stayed true to taking a receiver and took the electric receiver out of Penn State Jahan Dotson.

The final Results of the Draft day deal between the Saints and Commanders was the Saints landing their guy in Chris Olave, while Washington landed Jahan Dotson, Brian Robinson jr, Sam Howell, and Cole Turner.

The most interesting person in this trade 2 years later is still easily Jahan Dotson. Ron Rivera felt comfortable passing on Olave to amass more capital and most likely their guy from the start in Dotson. While it is still way too early to judge the winner of this trade, I can confidently say it worked out decently for both sides.

It is very understandable why Ron Rivera was high on Dotson after his final year in college amassing 91 catches for 1182 yards and 12 touchdown grabs. However, that same success hasn’t quite translated to NFL. He started off the regular season of 2022 on fire grabbing 3 catches for 40 yards and 2 touchdowns. He added onto that performance a week later adding another 5 catches for 59 yards and another touchdown. However he suffered an injury against the Dallas Cowboys sidelining him for 5 weeks. He returned and showed flashes of the great receiver he was and could still be with incredible performances later his rookie season against the Giants and 49ers. However, since then it has been slightly downhill.

The 2023 season was supposed to be a breakout year for Jahan Dotson. Unfortunately, it was quite the opposite. While there were plenty of negatives, there were still plenty of moments where he showed flashes of the receiver he could be. Jahan Dotson had a great game against the Eagles with 8 grabs for 108 yards and a touchdown.

This year however is possibly the biggest off-season in Commanders history. Holding pick #2 and a potential franchise QB inevitable, it makes me wonder how Jahan will be utilized this year. We’ve seen Terry McLaurin succeed with subpar QB play in the past. I truly feel we haven’t seen the best form of Jahan Dotson yet and coming off a sophomore slump, he needs to perform this year better than ever. The fanbase is more passionate and ignited than I have ever seen them and under new ownership and practically a whole new game day staff room, results are expected.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
