According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, free agent wide receiver Mike Williams is set to join the New York Jets on a one-year contract potentially valued at $15 million.
This move bolsters the Jets’ receiving core alongside primary target Garrett Wilson for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Williams had plans to explore opportunities with the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers but ultimately chose the Jets. The Los Angeles Chargers released Williams recently, providing significant salary cap relief.
Drafted seventh overall in 2017, Williams has showcased remarkable contested catch skills during his time in Los Angeles, notably alongside Keenan Allen. Despite signing a lucrative deal in 2022, his performance has been hampered by injuries in recent seasons. A fractured back sidelined him during the 2022 playoffs, and a torn ACL cut short his promising 2023 campaign after a strong start.
Although not a Pro Bowler, in seven seasons, Williams has 309 catches for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns.
