Scott Boras gets his way, again.

The wait has finally come to an end, as Blake Snell, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, is set to join the San Francisco Giants, according to a source who informed MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Monday night.

The deal is expected to be a two-year contract worth $62 million, including an opt-out clause after the 2024 season, although the club has not officially confirmed the agreement.

Since Snell rejected a qualifying offer from the San Diego Padres, the Giants will forfeit their third-round draft pick in 2024, as well as $500,000 from their international bonus pool for the upcoming signing period. San Francisco had already surrendered its second-round pick after signing Matt Chapman, who also declined a qualifying offer.

Snell will join the ranks of Chapman, Jung Hoo Lee, Jorge Soler, and Jordan Hicks as the Giants’ marquee free-agent acquisitions, putting a bow on a busy offseason for the team with less than a week remaining in Spring Training.

The 31-year-old Snell will reunite with manager Bob Melvin, who was hired by the Giants in October after spending two years with the Padres.

The Giants will now boast the top two finishers in the 2023 NL Cy Young voting — Snell and Logan Webb — leading their rotation. Snell will provide additional experience and stability to a staff that also includes Kyle Harrison, the top left-handed pitching prospect according to MLB Pipeline, and Hicks.

Snell’s 2023 campaign was one of the most dominant pitching performances leading into free agency.

He paced the Majors with a remarkable 2.25 ERA and topped the National League with 6.0 bWAR across 180 innings pitched. From a pure run prevention standpoint, Snell proved to be the most effective inning-by-inning starting pitcher in 2023. Interestingly, his elite production was largely fueled by his exceptional swing-and-miss stuff, coupled with an MLB-leading 99 walks and historically great numbers with runners in scoring position.

Snell’s ability to miss bats at an elite level while also stranding runners in scoring position propelled him to newfound heights, culminating in a standout season that positioned him as one of the most coveted arms on the free agent market.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
