According to reports from Field Yates late Wednesday night, the Baltimore Ravens have released wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. after just one season with the team. This move is designated as a post-June 1 release, allowing the Ravens to split the dead money between the 2024 and 2025 seasons. As a result, OBJ becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Last April, Beckham signed a one-year, $18 million contract with the Ravens. However, he reworked his deal in January, enabling the post-June 1 release if no agreement was reached before the new league year. In 2023, Beckham recorded 35 catches on 64 targets for 565 yards, ranking second on the team in receiving yards, along with three touchdowns in 14 games played. He added four receptions for 34 yards but no touchdowns in two playoff games, one of which he started.
This offseason, the Ravens re-signed wide receiver Nelson Agholor and bolstered their offense by acquiring running back Derrick Henry from the Tennessee Titans. Other playmakers in quarterback Lamar Jackson’s offensive arsenal include wide receivers Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman.
The 2023 campaign marked Beckham’s return to action after tearing his ACL in Super Bowl LVI while playing for the Los Angeles Rams. He spent one season with the Rams in 2021 and missed the entirety of the 2022 season.
Over his career, the 31-year-old Beckham has accumulated 566 receptions for 7,932 receiving yards and 59 touchdowns. He is a Super Bowl champion, was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014, a three-time Pro Bowler, and a two-time Second Team All-Pro selection.
Beckham’s professional journey began when he was drafted 12th overall by the New York Giants in 2014. He remained with the Giants through the 2018 season before joining the Cleveland Browns, where he played from 2019 to 2021. During the 2021 season, some drama with the Browns eventually led to his release and subsequent signing with the Rams.
