Oh Flacco, how we barely knew thee.
The long time NFL veteran and former Super Bowl MVP was signed by the Browns when starting QB Deshaun Watson went on injured reserve, and both backup quarterbacks, Dorian Thompson-Robinson and P.J. Walker got hurt as well.
Flacco brought a calm demeanor and presence into a locker room that had an offense struggling to put up points.
He played the final 5 regular season games for the Browns, and turned that stagnant offense, into a high scoring, high flying offense, that the whole world wanted to see.
The Browns went 4-1 in those 5 games, and helped Cleveland make the NFL Playoffs.
Browns fans fell in love with Flacco, like a teenage summer fling.
We fell hard.
It was fireworks and excitement.
You didn’t know what would happen from one moment to the next, but it made your heart flutter. Your palms sweaty. You pulse quicken. Your breath shorten.
Then the summer ends, and everyone goes home.
You write a few letters back and forth, but eventually, it all sputters to a stop.
Joe Flacco is now an Indianapolis Colt.
A 1-year contract for $8.5 million dollar contract to backup starting quarterback Anthony Richardson, as he comes back from injury.
Everyone has moved on to something new, but, we all have those fond memories that make us smile and remember fondly those oh so few weeks, where nothing else matter, and we rode that “high” while the world just seemed to float on by.
Good luck and thank you for the memories Joe.
