NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday that Derrick Henry and the Baltimore Ravens have agreed to terms on a two-year, $16 million contract. Rapoport noted that Henry’s deal could be worth up to $20 million and includes $9 million in guaranteed money.

Henry, 30, departs the Tennessee Titans after eight seasons and arrives in Baltimore, seemingly an ideal fit for the Ravens’ offense. His powerful running style should complement the game-breaking speed and elusiveness of quarterback Lamar Jackson.

During his tenure with the Titans from 2016 to 2023, Henry was a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time rushing champion. Among his standout performances was a 195-yard tour de force against the Ravens in the 2019 playoffs, leading the Titans to an upset victory over the top-seeded Baltimore team in the AFC Divisional Round.

Now, Henry joins the reigning AFC North champions in the hopes of propelling them further in their Super Bowl pursuit after they fell short in last season’s AFC Championship Game against the eventual champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Regardless of whether it was J.K. Dobbins, an impending free agent, Gus Edwards, who is signing with the Los Angeles Chargers, Keaton Mitchell, or others, health issues have plagued the Ravens’ running back room over the years.

While Henry has long been predicted to eventually wear down, he has played 33 regular-season games over the past two seasons and led the NFL in carries in each of them.

Jackson has been the Ravens’ leading rusher in each of the past three seasons, and Baltimore hasn’t had a running back surpass 1,000 yards since 2014. Henry, a 1,000-yard rusher five times, including the past two campaigns, will be looked upon to remedy that deficiency in the Ravens’ backfield.

While questions will abound regarding how much Henry has left in the tank, the Ravens are hoping he will provide the backfield presence that will push them to a Lombardi Trophy.
