It’s been a fast and furious start to the “legal tampering period” before NFL Free Agency “officially” starts at 4PM on Wednesday.

Cleveland was in the “final four” for DT Christian Wilkins, but he decided to sign with the Las Vegas Raiders.

According to multiple sources, the Browns are resigning DE Za’Darius Smith to a 2-year contract with a base of $23.5 Million Dollars and up to $25 Million with incentives.

Smith will make a base salary of $12 Million in year 1 of this new contract.

Smith finished last season with 27 total tackles, with 5.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble.

The Browns are also resigning DT Maurice Hurst to a 1-year deal worth up to $3.2 Million Dollars.

Hurst was having a great year as a rotational player before getting hurt and only playing in 13 games.

He finished the season with 22 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery and 1 interception.

The Cleveland Browns had the #1 ranked defense last season.

These resigning’s look to keep the core and depth of that group intact.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
