According to reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New England Patriots have reached an agreement to trade quarterback Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Although the deal cannot be officially completed until the start of the new league year on Wednesday and pending Jones passing a physical examination, it appears that the Jacksonville native will have an opportunity to revitalize his career in his hometown.

Schefter’s reporting indicates that the Patriots and Jaguars were discussing a sixth-round draft pick as compensation for the trade. This detail seems to be corroborated by Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, who claims that New England is indeed trading their 2021 first-round selection for a sixth-round choice.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com adds that while four teams were interested in acquiring the services of the Alabama product, the Jaguars were the only club to table an offer as of yesterday, according to Jonathan Jones. Further insights from Albert Breer of SI.com suggest that the Patriots were initially seeking a fifth-round pick before ultimately accepting a sixth-round selection

Last month, reports surfaced suggesting the Patriots had devised a three-pronged strategy to address their quarterback situation during the offseason, one component of which involved trading Mac Jones. There was some pushback against the notion that New England had formulated a comprehensive quarterback blueprint. It was heard throughout the organization, it had become increasingly evident that the club intended to facilitate a Jones trade. Representing a mutually beneficial change of scenery for both player and team.

With this trade now executed, the Patriots can shift their focus toward acquiring a veteran signal-caller and/or selecting a premier prospect in the upcoming draft. Recent rumors indicate that if Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels are unavailable when the Patriots are on the clock with the No. 3 pick, the team may explore trading back.
