NBA: ESPN’s Windhorst Doesn’t Think Cavaliers Fans Need to Worry about Mitchell Leaving

On Wednesday evening, Cavaliers Nation wrote up an article stating that ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, stated that he doesn’t believe that the Cleveland Cavaliers need to worry about Donovan Mitchell leaving Cleveland for the New York Knicks….like it was previously rumored/ thought of.

Windhorst stated the following on Wednesday:

“I don’t know if the Donovan Mitchell Knicks thing is really still a possibility. I guess it is because he can be a free agent in a year. I don’t know how Donovan feels. I don’t know how he feels, but I gotta imagine as a kid from New York who wanted to play for the Knicks in 2022, that’s where he wanted to get traded. It’s not an insult to Cleveland. I’m from Cleveland. I’m not insulting it. He wanted to be a Knick. He’s gotta be looking at what Jalen Brunson has and feeling like, ‘Damn, that could have been me.”

Maybe it has something to do with Max Strus and the depth that the Cavaliers have this season compared to the 2022-23 season , that ended abruptly for the Cavs during their first round matchup against the Knicks.

The Cavs heading into Wednesday’s matchup against the Chicago Bulls stand at second place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 38-19, only trailing the Boston Celtics. The Cavs are the fifth best team in the NBA as well.

Mitchell has played and started in 46 games this season, averaging 28.2 points per game, 1.8 steals per game, 6.2 assists per game, 5.4 total rebounds per game, and has a field goal percentage of .474% .

Especially given the success of the team thus far, and confidence and momentum building following a huge victory against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday Night, will Mitchell decide to stay with the Cleveland following the 2023-24 season? Let us know on X @WeLikeSportzPC what your thoughts are?
