On February 17th, SCW Pro Heartbreak comes to us from the Blue Grass Community Center in Bluegrass IA. SCW Pro runs out of Eastern Iowa, primarily in Bluegrass and Iowa City. They have been around for twenty years and have spent the last decade being the home promotion of the Black & the Brave Wrestling Academy, run by Seth Rollins & Marek Brave.
SCW Pro Championship: “The Devil Dog” Dustan Mosely (c) vs. Corn Boi
The Corn Boi had recently lost the Iowa Championship to the 1 Called Manders & is looking to rebound with the SCW Pro Championship. Dustan Mosely has been champion since the 20th Anniversary show in September & has taken on all-comers since then.
The action was back and forth, with the “Devil Dog” overpowering the smaller challenger. However, Corn Boi fought valiantly, even achieving a visual pin over the champion. The power advantage was too much for the challenger and Mosely retains after a powerbomb and jackhammer. Despite the defeat, Corn Boi received a round of applause from the packed community center.
Krotch vs. Augustus Draven
Draven looks to climb the rankings with a big win over SCW Pro stalwart Krotch. Krotch is looking to maintain standing to reclaim his recently lost QC Cup. The larger Draven utilized clubbing blows and attacks that targeted the lower body to his opponent, but not before losing his cool at the crowds’ co-opting commentator Knight Wagner’s new nickname for Draven, “Emo Braveheart”. This allowed the Wily veteran to capitalize and hit the Krotch Rocket for the win.
QC Cup: Jon Bonhart w/Mark Storm (c) vs. Chuck Brewster
Jon Bonhart has been seeing a rise in his stock since the return of manager Mark Storm, winning the QC Cup from Krotch. Chuck Brewster has been a crowd favorite since entering SCW with his brother Buck. As such, it was a very pro-Chuck crowd tonight. However, Bonhart and Storm used every dirty trick in their book and capitalized on poor refereeing to stop any momentum Chuck would mount, finally finishing off his opponent with a twisting senton.
After the match, Mark Storm puts Bonhart over, stating that the cup holder requires a cup befitting a man of Bonhart’s stature, before presenting Bonhart with a brand-new QC Cup.
Krotch comes out to interrupt the ceremony, noting that he holds a non-title victory over Bonhart, as such, Krotch is still the number one contender for the QC Cup. Storm puts over the victory, via DQ, but agrees that is going to put Krotch through a test. Krotch will get his title opportunity if he beats an opponent of Storm’s choosing next month. After Krotch accepts, Bonhart & Storm attack Krotch. Things look bleak when Jayson Paul-the former JP Finger makes his return after two years.
Paul hasn’t been seen in the SCW Pro ring in nearly two years and has not been on the fan-favorite side since turning on his partner Jared Thumb and dropping the JP Finger moniker. This was not lost on the skeptical Krotch, as Paul offered his assistant to the SCW Pro legend. Krotch left the returning Paul hanging. Sometimes no response is a response.
Scramble for the SCW Pro Iowa Championship: 1 Called Manders (c) vs. Johnny Wisdom vs Deonn Rusman vs. JT Energy vs. Dante Leon
This was supposed to be a six-person scramble, but last week, Dante Leon attacked Shane Boucher at the Black & the Brave Wrestling Academy. Boucher got a concussion due to the beating he received. The 1 Called Manders won the Iowa Championship last month, defeating the Corn Boi.
The match itself was wild & woolly as you would expect from so many people being involved in the match. Johnny Wisdom was injured early in the match. Deonn Rusman dove so far on a plancha that he took out at least one member of the crowd. We even got a doomsday spear from Rusman/Energy on the champ, before Leon landed a double stomp on Energy.
Energy had the match won with his Breathtaker elevated crab (which I swore I hear Manders quit) before being taken out. Manders retains the title after taking Leon’s head off with a lariat.
Jared Thumb vs. Mason Beck
We came back from intermission for the special challenge match. Mason Beck is the current number one contender after winning last month’s Prestige Rumble. Thumb, desperate to prove himself as a serious contender, challenged Beck despite knowing he will be in the fight of his life. And fight he had to, as Thumb refused to be taken lightly by Beck. Beck battered Thumb with his trademark vicious chops before giving Thumb the always devastating Beck Bomb.
After the match, Beck wanted to continue teaching Thumb a lesson, but the champ, Dustan Mosely intervened & Beck backed off.
Casey Jax vs. Lonzo Romero
Casey Jax is one-half of Jax Amore, the SCW Pro tag team champions. Lonzo Romero is nicknamed the “Lunch Lady” by the defiant crowd & looking to raise his stock in SCW. It was a back & forth affair, with Romero raising the ire of the crowd with his cockiness, while Jax impressed with his high-flying, high-energy offense. Jax would pick up the victory with a step-up knee.
Tigre Amore vs. “Prime Time” James Thomas
Tigre Amore is the other half of Jax Amore and a SCW Pro tag team champion. James Thomas is attempting to purge himself of the specter of Ript Studwell, who Thomas defeated in a “Loser Leaves SCW” match at the 20th Anniversary event. However, he allegedly keeps sneaking back into venues.
Thomas continues to show a vicious streak, beating down the popular Amore. Thomas even nearly had won the match, when an overzealous Amore fan in a mask hopped on the ring apron. This distracted the irate Thomas, who assumed this was Studwell in disguise, allowing himself to be rolled up for three.
Kendo Stick on a Pole: Eric Eznite (w/Evangeline) vs. Shane Hollister
The rules are simple, the match cannot end until the kendo stick hanging above the ring is taken down and used. Eznite & Hollister have been feuding since November, with Eznite bringing out a kendo stick during their last confrontation. Hollister is a SCW Pro Hall of Famer, & Eznite is one of the young upstarts and the head of the Chosen.
The match was hot & heavy with both competitors more willing to go after each other than go for the kendo stick. Hollister showed he did not need to use the kendo stick, utilizing a chop-based offense. When it came time for Hollister to retrieve the kendo stick, there were mass difficulties freeing it from the pole, requiring the pole to be dismantled in the process.
The time spent freeing the kendo stick allowed Eznite to recover & use the stick for himself. Hollister would shrug off the beating & take the stick for his own, splitting Eznite’s ear with a nasty shot with the kendo stick. Despite the loss of blood and an injured ear, Eznite persevered, taking out his foe with the Epiphanknee to claim victory.
Per usual, SCW put on an excellent show for the packed community center, with shocking returns and plenty of hard hitting in-ring action. With admission being only $10, it is well worth the trip to Blue Grass IA or Iowa City to see some of the best wrestling Eastern Iowa has to offer & see the future stars of professional wrestling.
