Per NBC Sports Mike Florio “Every year, the league and the NFL Players Association negotiate the number, with various factors coming into play. In the past, it has been higher than perhaps it should have been; the year after the lockout, for example, it was believed that the league agreed to ensure that the cap would not fall in comparison to 2011, in order to avoid a mutiny within the union,”
Florio first released his report based on information from several sources indicating that the projected cap number was approximately $242/243 million.
However, in a later article Florio said Another source, with a proven record of accuracy in these matters, says it will be closer to $250 million than to $243 million,”
In 2023, it stood at $224.8 million, while the preceding year(2022) saw it at $208.2 million.
Currently, Spotrac is employing the $242.5 million estimate. While OverTheCap is basing its projections on the $242 million figure.
Platforms like Spotrac and OverTheCap provide valuable resources for this purpose, including tools that facilitate simulating free agency, trades, and more, enabling a realistic approach to squad organization.
One thing to remember, these sites are using projections, so they could be off.
A few things to note, per NFL Operations:
NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis will take place from February 27th to March 4th. Additionally, March 5th(4pm EST) is the day or deadline for clubs to designate Franchise tags or Transition Players.
