Las Vegas— According to sources from ESPN, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo faces a two-game suspension for breaching the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing substances.

Jimmy G spent little over a year with the Raiders

The violation reportedly stems from his use of a prescribed medication without obtaining a valid therapeutic use exemption from the league. Garoppolo has decided not to contest the suspension and will sit out the first two games of the 2024 season.

According to Adam Schefter the Raiders are likely to release Jimmy G before mid-March to avoid paying him an $11.25 million roster bonus. This move could also nullify his $11.25 million base salary guarantee for the 2024 season.

Garoppolo, who signed a three-year, $72.75 million contract with Las Vegas in March under the leadership of Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler, now faces an uncertain future with the team.

With Antonio Pierce and Tom Telesco at the helm, there appears to be little allegiance to Garoppolo. The Raiders are reportedly considering drafting another quarterback, possibly trading up from their current No. 13 pick.

Once Garoppolo is officially released, the team will be left with Aidan O’Connell and veteran Brian Hoyer as their quarterbacks.

Garoppolo, 32, will likely seek his third team in three seasons after stints with the San Francisco 49ers in 2022 and the Raiders in 2023. While he can participate in offseason activities and training camp with any new team, he will be ineligible to play for the first two weeks of the regular season due to the suspension, as per NFL regulations.
