On Monday evening, the We Like Sportz Show hosted former Cleveland Indians first baseman, and left fielder, Matt LaPorta.

Matt was asked plenty of questions throughout the show, one question that is article worthy was regarding the art of the bat flip for a hitter in baseball. LaPorta mentioned his time in Florida facing off against Jensen Lewis, who pitched for Vanderbilt.

Matt had the following to say about the matchup against Lewis and Vandy.

“Jensen Lewis is on the mound, and I already punched out twice to Jensen, with two fastballs inside, and he was still out there pitching the next plate appearance I got up. They walked the batter before me, to load the bases, to get to me. We had a good at-bat, we get to basically a full count, Lewis pumps one inside, and I foul it off. He pumps another one inside, I foul it off. Again, I struckout two times on his fastball inside. He comes back in for a third one, I hit this ball so far, and I flipped my bat and I walked halfway to first base.

I thought that their first base coach (Erik Bakich) and I thought this guy was going to kill me, I’m rounding the bag, my coach is yelling at me, everybody is yelling at me, Matt run run, I just hit a grand slam, off of a guy that punched me out twice, and he tried to show me up by walking the guy in front of me. So I get around third base, and that first base coach, I can see out of the corner of my eye, wanting to come out of the dugout, he got up to the top of the step, I was just looking out keeping an eye out making sure I didn’t get tackled or something.”

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
