We head to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as Villanova welcomes Providence. Normally I wouldn’t be looking to back a team on a five game losing streak, but the Wildcats have gone through a gauntlet. Over the last five games the Wildcats have faced #11 ranked Marquette twice, #1 UConn, Butler and St Johns. The Wildcats are in desperation mode as we get closer to conference tournaments.
The Friars have struggled on the road this season coming in at 2-4 after their recent road loss to UConn. Providence defense has been their strength ranking top twenty in the nation. Offensively they rank 222nd averaging just 106.3 points per game. In games decided by four points or less Providence is 0-2.
Villanova will need the home crowd to help them end their current losing streak, as they’re 6-4 at home. In what I expect to be a close game, a huge strength for the Wildcats is their free throw shooting. With only a 11-10 record the Wildcats are the best free throwing shooting team in the country. Their ability to be knock down free throws and limit turnovers will be the deciding factor.
