On Friday Night Smackdown, 2024 Royal Rumble winner, Cody Rhodes was scheduled to have a face to face with WWE Undisputed Universal Champion, Roman Reigns.

Following Rhodes’ Rumble win he even pointed to the WrestleMania 40 sign, as tradition continues, but, also pointed to Roman Reigns stating that he wanted him…or so we thought.

During a promo segment on Smackdown, Rhodes told Roman that he will finish his story but it will not be at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia. Rhodes stated that he spoke to a lot of people since Monday Night Raw, when World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins, threw a curveball to the “American Nightmare”.

One of those people that Cody had talked to was also The Rock…then his music hit and The Rock and Roman Reigns had a staredown to close the night…creating a uproar in the WWE Universe.

It appears that Cody will not be finishing his story with the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship, and the Mania match that apparently nobody wanted will…. The Rock vs Roman Reigns.

Will the WWE choose to pivot from this direction following the strong dislike of this segment, especially on their YouTube channel. Will this create a trajectory for Cody to have a similar story to Daniel Bryan or even Kofi-Mania? After all Cody Rhodes never officially said when he would be challenging Roman.

Will it be at Elimination Chamber, will Cody be postponing his WrestleMania main event for a SummerSlam main event? Honestly at this point, anything can happen.
