According to the Japan Boxing Commission, 23 year old Kazuki Anaguchi, a Japanese boxer, passed away on Friday due to complications from a subdural hematoma sustained during his fight in Tokyo on December 26th.

In the 10-round bantamweight match, Anaguchi (6-1, 2 KOs) was knocked down four times and ultimately lost via a closely contested unanimous decision to Seiya Tsutsumi. This 118-pound bout was featured as the co-main event on ESPN+, accompanying Naoya Inoue’s triumph over Marlon Tapales for the undisputed junior featherweight title.

Following the December 26th fight, he lost consciousness and required emergency surgery, undergoing treatment at a hospital. Unfortunately, he never regained consciousness thereafter.

“Top Rank joins the boxing community in mourning the passing of Kazuki Anaguchi,” Inoue’s American promoter told ESPN. “We send our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones.”
