We hit the ice as we head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as the Flyers welcome the Ottawa Senators. The Flyers quietly are having a good season, sitting just two points behind the Rangers for first place in the Metropolitan division.

With a 25-15-6 record Philadelphia’s strength has been their defense. The Flyers are eighth in goals allowed, fifth in shots on goal and second in penalty kill. Their offense has let them down a lot early in the season, averaging just 2.93 goals per game, good for 22nd in the league.

Both teams come in off a back to back playing Saturday and losing. The Senators took on Winnipeg at home and suffered a tough 2-1 overtime loss. The Sens are just 3-6-1 in their last ten matchups and look to be sellers heading into the trade deadline.

A 16-24-1 record Ottawa is on pace to miss the playoffs for the eighth season in a row. Not only did the Sens play yesterday, and now have to travel to Philly for an early matinee, they’re a brutal 4-13 on the road.

Philadelphia has actually played their best hockey away from home and will look to start protecting home ice. 11-9-2 at the Wells Fargo Center on the season, Philly is presented with a great opportunity to grab two points in front of the home crowd Sunday afternoon.

The Flyers lost yesterday at home to the Colorado Avalanche 7-4, with Logan O’Connor recording his first career hat trick. Allowing seven goals even it being to Colorado, isn’t normal for the Flyers defense and we should expect a much better effort on the ice today.

Since they played yesterday, Ottawa is going with backup Mads Sogaard who started one game this season and allowed six goals. The Flyers turn to Samuel Ersson between the pipes sporting a 12-5-3 record the season.

Forward Owen Tippett was injured yesterday for Philadelphia and is listed day to day, so I doubt hockey fans will see him in this matchup.

Already struggling to score, Philadelphia will need to figure out ways to make up for his offense. In Ottawas last 11 games the favorite has won each matchup.

Philadelphia is the favorite today, so let’s make it 12 straight!

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
