Sunday’s SnoozeYouLose Pick

We improved to 13-6 with last weeks winner as the Ottawa Senators took care of business against the Buffalo Sabres. We are off to a great start to begin 2024 sitting 6-1 to start the year. This weeks play isn’t going to be supported by a lot of analytics. It’s simple, we are taking two teams that if they win, clinch their division and advance to the postseason.

First team is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa heads to Carolina to take on the worst team in the NFL. Supporting a 2-14 record the road to the postseason couldn’t be easier for the Bucs. Facing a division foe, you would assume the Panthers are trying to play spoiler, but they just don’t have the talent. Carolina does defend the pass well and sits 3rd in the NFL with yards allowed, but they allow 25 points per game third worst in the league. The Buccaneers rank 31st in the NFL in rushing yards per game, so this is going to have to be won on the arm of Baker Mayfield. The last time these two teams met, Tampa Bay escaped with a 21-18 victory. I just don’t trust the Bucs with the points so we are just going to take them money line to handle business and keep their season alive.

We’ll look to another Florida team to get things done and advance to the postseason, as the Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Tennessee Titans. Another division matchup where the road is simple; win and clinch the division. Jacksonville has put themselves in a position many didn’t expect, but going 1-4 in their last five games its come down to this. Quarterback Trevor Lawerence isn’t healthy, but will likely go while dealing with a sprained AC joint. Even with a banged up QB of their own, the edge the Jaguars have in this matchup is still under center, as the Titans will roll with Ryan Tannehill for the season finale. Tannehill has started the last two weeks after losing his job to Will Levis, who’s out due to a foot injury. There’s no other path for Jacksonville. It’s win and clinch back to back AFC South Championships, or lose and go golfing. Lawerence isn’t healthy, so the Jags will have to rely on their defense and running game. Tannehill lacks mobility and I’m expecting him to get sacked a bunch of times today(was sacked five last week).

No fancy numbers this week. Two good teams against two bad teams. Win and get a home game in the first round. Seems pretty straight forward. Let’s put some money in the account!
