Las Vegas—On Saturday night, Jack Eichel and Nic Roy both netted two goals, securing a 5-2 victory for the Vegas Golden Knights over the New York Islanders.

Pavel Dorofeyev contributed a goal for the Golden Knights, who, having lost six of their previous seven matches with a goal difference of 29-15, saw Logan Thompson make 28 saves.

Eichel found the net in both the first and third periods, with the latter goal assisted by rookie Lukas Cormier in his NHL debut. Meanwhile, Roy scored in the second and third periods, providing a much-needed boost to an offense that had been struggling.

Ivan Barbeshev celebrates after Eichel’s first goal.

“Credit to the group, we’ve always been a good rush team, but we always want to continue to work on an offensive zone play and scoring goals out of a cycle,” Eichel said. “So it’s good to see a few goals … there were some good things to like about our offensive zone game. I thought it was just a good response for the group.”

Mathew Barzal and Matt Martin scored as the Islanders suffered their third loss in four games (1-2-1) to close out their west coast road trip. Ilya Sorokin made 24 saves in the match

Luckily New York will have two days to rest up before a 2-game home stand against Pacific Division leader Vancouver.

The Golden Knights secured a 3-1 lead with goals from Dorofeyev and Roy, scored just 1:30 apart in the late second period.

Initially, Dorofeyev tapped in a pass from Chandler Stephenson with 2:49 remaining, followed by Roy skating into the left circle and scoring with a wrist shot just 1:19 before the end.

To kick off the third period with a power play advantage, Cormier seized a loose puck after a faceoff and passed it to Eichel. From the top of the right circle, Eichel unleashed a precise wrist shot, extending Vegas’ lead to 4-1 just 31 seconds into the period.

Just over two minutes later, Martin netted a goal for the Islanders, and at 4:20, Roy responded for the Golden Knights, establishing the final margin.

Up next the Isles have a 2 game home-stand this week against the Canucks.

The Golden Knights are at Colorado Thursday evening.
