Tempe, AZ—Thursday night, the Islanders meant all business as they began their west coast road trip in Tempe.

Bo Horvat netted two goals, including one during New York’s three-goal third period, contributing to the New York Islanders(18-10-10) 5-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes(19-6-2).

Ilya Sorokin safeguarded the win with 25 saves. Sorokin had three shutouts in five previous games against Arizona. Anders Lee and Julien Gauthier scored within 52 seconds of each other, securing a 4-1 lead early in the third. Additionally, Horvat notched an unassisted goal.

Matthew Barzal, with two assists, reached 401 points in the NHL. Barzal, named to his third All-Star team, boasts 6 assists in his last six games. Mike Reilly also scored in the first, on the Bo Horvat assist.

“Pretty much all our goals came off the forecheck, so that was big for us,” said Barzal, whose team is 1-1-1 on a four-game trip following a 5-4 overtime loss at Colorado on Tuesday night. “The last game in Colorado was not my line’s best, so we needed to bounce back.”

Horvat started the scoring at 7:56 of the first period, just 11 seconds into a power play. Noah Dobson launched a shot from the right circle, and the puck rebounded off a defender straight to Horvat. Seizing the opportunity, Horvat swiftly executed a wrist shot from the slot, beating Ingram.

As the Islanders prepare to go into Las Vegas Friday evening here is the injury report:

Before the game, Islanders defenseman Robert Bortuzzo was placed on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury. The injury occurred when he was checked into the boards during the second period of a 5-4 overtime loss at Colorado on Tuesday night.

Semyon Varlamov, the New York goalie, suffered a lower-body injury in Colorado and was unavailable. In response, goalie Ken Appleby was called up from the American Hockey League’s Bridgeport.
