Last weeks play ended with a heartbreak as the Broncos couldn’t get us the win, ending their season and Russell Wilson future in Denver. Sitting at 12-6 we are looking to end 2023 with a winner! We head to the ice as the Ottawa Senators welcome the Buffalo Sabers. Buffalo comes in off an emotional win in front of their home crowd, 3-2 over the Blue Jackets in OT. The Sabers benefited from Columbus being on a back to back with their backup goalie in net.
Buffalo also had some extra motivation looking to avenge an embarrassing 9-4 loss against Columbus earlier this month. Now the Sabers will be on a back to back with their backup net minder between the pipes.
Buffalo sits 15-18-4 on the season, but they’ve really struggled on the road. The Sabers are 7-9-3 away from home entering this contest. The Senators come in 13-18-0 on the season and just 9-10 at home.
Their record isn’t impressive, but the Sens had a brutal schedule in the month of December. A five game road trip against St. Louis, Dallas, Vegas, Arizona and Colorado. Three of those teams are Stanley Cup contenders. Even with being under .500 Ottawa ranks top ten in goals per game and shots on goal. They should have plenty of opportunities against a Buffalo defense that ranks 24th in goals allowed.
The key for Ottawa in this matchup is to stay out the box. Ottawa is dead last in penalty kill in the NHL. Buffalo definitely enjoyed getting that win in front of their home crowd yesterday and had to battle back to get it.
I’m expecting some tired legs against a Sens team who should be looking to get to .500 at home and end their 2023 with a win in front of their fans. More juice than I normally give out, but we are going with the full game line oppose to regulation only just to be safe.
