On Saturday afternoon, Jeff Passan of ESPN, broke the news that the Atlanta Braves will be acquiring seven time all-star, Chris Sale, from the Boston Red Sox.
With what appears to be a few rebuilding years ahead for the Red Sox, the move to part ways with a player of Sale’s caliber, as well as, his career slowly coming to a close, the move makes sense.
As Passan had mentioned above, Sale had to waive his no-trade clause to join the Braves.
Sale started in 20 games in the 2023 season with the Red Sox, holding a record of 6-5, 4.30 ERA, 102.2 innings pitched, 125 strikeouts, and 29 walks.
Throughout Sale’s 13 year career he has a record of 120-80, 3.10 ERA, 263 games started, 16 complete games, 1780.2 innings pitched, 2189 strikeouts, and 416 walks. Sale also averages 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings (which currently is an all-time record).
In return the Red Sox acquire , Vaughn Grissom, who is a 22 year old middle infielder. Grissom has played in a total of 64 games in the big leagues, having a slash line of .287/.339/.407 , 9 doubles, 1 triple, 5 homers, 27 RBIs, 5 stolen bases, has drawn 13 walks, and struck out 49 times.
Grissom spent the majority of his 2023 season with the Braves triple A affiliate.
