Raleigh. N.C.—-Saturday, Anders Lee had a goal and two assists, leading the New York Islanders(16-8-9) to a 5-4 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes(17-13-4) on Saturday night. Ilya Sorokin made 36 saves for the Islanders, ensuring they go into the Christmas break having earned points in 11 of their last 12 games.

“Any time you go into a break you want to be feeling good,” said Lee, the Islanders’ captain(who has 9 goals in his last 18 games). “To get two points going into the break, get a few days rest and enjoy some family time is really nice. We will get back at it in a few days.”

Brock Nelson, Bo Horvat, and Mike Reilly each contributed with a goal and assist, while Sebastian Aho scored a goal for the Islanders. Kyle Palmieri and Mathew Barzal both registered two assists each.

We played a full 60 minutes,” Lee said. “To beat this team you have to have everyone going and we really did.”

Stefan Noesen, Jaccob Slavin, Sebastian Aho, and Teuvo Teravainen found the net for the Hurricanes, who suffered their fourth loss in five games. Martin Necas and Andrei Svechnikov each contributed two assists. Pyotr Kochetkov, facing 23 shots, struggled in goal, highlighting the ongoing goaltending challenges for the Hurricanes since starter Frederik Andersen’s absence due to a blood-clotting issue on Nov. 2. The 24-year-old Russian goaltender had shown improvement recently but faced difficulties in Saturday’s match.

Up next the New York Islanders will host the Penguins at UBS Arena on Wednesday night.
