Raleigh, NC—On Tuesday night, Michael Bunting contributed a goal and two assists, while Brady Skjei scored a goal and provided an assist, leading the Carolina Hurricanes to a 6-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights, matching their season’s highest-scoring game.
Andrei Svechnikov, Jordan Staal, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and Seth Jarvis all found the net. Meanwhile Sebastian Aho contributed three assists, as the Hurricanes extended their point streak to five games (3-0-2). Pyotr Kochetkov had his third victory in eight nights with 30 saves.
William Carrier netted two goals, Nicolas Hague added another for Vegas, which suffered its second loss in three games after a seven-game points streak. Brett Howden contributed two assists, while Logan Thompson conceded six goals on 28 shots before being replaced with over 15 minutes left. Jiri Patera stepped in and successfully defended against all 10 shots he encountered.
“In their power play, they just executed through and got shots from the elbows,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “We didn’t do a good enough job getting in shooting lanes, pushing it farther away from our net.”
Carrier ended a 20-game goal drought by knocking in a rebound following Brayden McNabb’s blocked shot by Kochetkov, leveling the score at 1-1. This marked his fourth goal.
Following that, the Hurricanes dominated the game. Kotkaniemi, who hadn’t scored in 10 games, found the net at 10:11 in the second period. Bunting added a power-play goal 1:28 later, while Jarvis and Skjei scored within the first 5 minutes of the third period.
Golden Knights center Jack Eichel’s franchise-record points streak continued to 11 games when Hague scored off his assist with 1:24 remaining.
Up next the Golden Knights travel to Tampa Bay to face the Lightning on Thursday.
