New Orleans—On Sunday, Derek Carr threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns, while the New Orleans defense sacked Tommy DeVito seven times, leading the Saints to a 24-6 victory over the New York Giants(5-9).
Carr delivered one of his strongest performance of this season, overcoming recent struggles that led to boos from the home crowd. He connected on 23 of 28 passes without a turnover, in one of his most efficient outings with New Orleans (7-7). Notably, Carr did it without the top receiver Chris Olave, who was sidelined due to an ankle injury.
Carr threw touchdown passes of 7 yards to Keith Kirkwood, 24 yards to Juwan Johnson, and 1 yard to Jimmy Graham, marking Graham’s 3rd consecutive game with a TD.
The win keeps the Saints tied atop the NFC South with Tampa Bay.
This marked the end of the 3 game win-streak of overnight sensation, undrafted rookie QB Tommy ‘Cutlets’ Devito. Now guaranteed a losing record for the season, the Giants hold on to hopes that they can sneak into that final NFC wild-card spot.
DeVito, the first Giants QB with three consecutive games with 20+ attempts and 100+ passer rating since Eli Manning in 2014, completed 20 of 34 passes for 177 yards and a 72.8 passer rating on the day.
Entering this week, the Saints had allowed the lowest opponent passer rating in the NFL this season (74.7). so no surprises there. He exited the game during New York’s last four offensive plays in the second quarter(possible concussion). This following a 6-yard scramble during which he took a high and hard hit from DB Isaac Yiadom
Tyrod Taylor entered the game for the next few plays throwing 2 passes for 13 yards and setting up a 40 yard field goal by punter Jamie “The Scottish Hammer” Gillan. He was in place of the injured Randy Bullock.
Darren Waller, the Giants’ tight end, returned from a five game layoff due to a hamstring issue. Upon being activated from injured reserve, he became one of DeVito’s primary targets, making four receptions for a total of 40 yards. Darius Slayton also had four receptions for a total of 63 yards. Saquon was limited to just 14 rushing yards on the day.
Up next the G-Men head down to Lincoln Financial Field in Philly to meet division rivals, the Eagles on Christmas day.
