Montreal—On Saturday night, the Montreal Canadiens posted a 5-3 victory over the New York Islanders, with Josh Anderson netting two goals.
Cole Caufield scored his first goal in seven games. Joel Armia, along with Christian Dvorak, also found the net for Montreal. Sean Monahan, Nick Suzuki, and Justin Barron contributed with two assists each.
The Canadiens garnered their second victory in the last 10 home games, with Sam Montembeault making 30 saves.
Brock Nelson netted two goals, Noah Dobson contributed three assists, and Semyon Varlamov made 36 saves for New York. Despite trailing 4-0 entering the third period, the team scored three times, narrowing the gap to one goal. This marked the Islanders’ first regulation loss this month.
Bo Horvat scored the Islanders third goal, extending his career-high point streak to 10.
Montreal dominated the first period, outshooting New York 14-10. Then in the second, they scored four consecutive goals. Starting with Armia breaking the tie at 7:45 in the second with a wrist shot from the slot, beating Varlamov.

In the last minute of the 2nd, Montreal netted two goals within a 15-second span, taking a significant lead. Anderson notched his second goal by making a net drive, while Caufield completed a tic-tac-toe play with Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkovsky at 19:21.
New York owned the third. Nelson scored a short-handed goal 2:07 into the period, putting the Islanders on the scoreboard. Shortly after, he scored again at even strength 1:36 later, reducing the deficit by half. With 15 goals this season, Nelson leads the Islanders. Horvat then capitalized on a rebound at 14:06, bringing New York within one.
Ultimately, the Canadiens would hold off Isles, Dvorak out the nail in the coffin with an empty net goal to make it 5-3.
