For the THIRD straight day, a Browns player is going on the Injured Reserve List.
You read that right.
Third day in a row.
Monday it was RT Dawand Jones.
Yesterday it was LT Jedrick Wills Jr and DT Maurice Hurst.
Today, the team announced that starting safety Grant Delpit will miss the rest of the regular season with an injured groin.
IF the Browns make the playoffs, he will be eligible to return to play. Though with groin injuries it’s always hard to tell.
He signed a 3-year, $36 million dollar contract extension with Cleveland, just this past weekend.
Delpit leads the team in tackles with 80 this season. He also has 1.5 sacks, 7 TFLs, 3 passes defended, 1 INT, and 1 fumble recovery.
The injury is a big loss to the Browns defense. Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz uses Delpit all over the field. His ability to play single high safety coverage, as well as being able to hit and play in the box, is valuable in Schwartz’s scheme.
This means that D’Anthony Bell will be starting now.
Bell was an undrafted rookie last season, and is in his second year with Cleveland.
As the injuries continue to pile up for the Browns, it makes fans wonder, how long this wagon can continue to roll, with all the patchwork duct tape everywhere.
The Browns are currently 8-5 and have the #1 Wildcard spot in the playoffs. The question is becoming, can they hold on?
