The New York Knicks travel to Toronto tonight to face the Raptors at Scotiabank Arena. The Raptors at 9-10 don’t sound like a threat until you realize the Knicks have only won 5 of the last 20 games against the Raptors.
Here is a look at few key stats for the Knicks this season and what that means for tonight.
In Points Per Game(PPG), The Knicks rank is bottom of the barrel; 26th in the league, averaging 110.0 ppg. Their shooting percentage, the third lowest in the NBA at 44.1%, poses a significant challenge as well.
They have been able to get a boost on the other side of the ball, by securing wins through strong defense and effective rebounding.
New York ranks among the top five teams in the league for overall efficiency, conceding only 108.7 points per 100 possessions. The Knicks lead the NBA in defensive rebound rate at 75.6% and second-chance points with 10.8 per game.
Additionally, New York showcases elite statistics in free throw attempts allowed (19.1 per game), points allowed in the paint (43.1 per game), and assists allowed (24.2 per game).
However, they have had some difficulty in defending the three-pointer. They rank 15th in 3’s allowed against per game.
The Toronto Raptors won against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday with a final score of 112-105. This game exemplifies the Raptors’ performance this season. Strong defensive play, right up there with the New York Knicks in various categories.
Toronto ranks tenth in points allowed per game (112.2) and steals per game (8.1), showcasing their defensive prowess. Additionally, they are ninth in the NBA for three-pointers attempts against their defense this season.
However, on the offensive front, the Raptors face challenges, averaging 111.5 points per game. Amongst other things they are 22nd in the league in three-pointers made per game this seasons.
One thing they do well is offensive boards. They rank 6th in the NBA in offensive rebounds(Those second chances are huge).
This is a tough game for the Knicks on NO rest. I like the Knicks to squeeze this out defensively, if I was a betting man I’d take the under at 216.
