The deadline for the NFL to “flex” games out of certain TV spots has come and gone.
One of the biggest games that people were keeping an eye on was the Week 17 Thursday Night Game between the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns at 8:15 PM (EST) on Amazon Prime.
The NFL has been under heavy criticism, and Amazon to a lesser extent, about the quality of games on the streaming service.
Amazon Prime costs $139.99 a year (over $148 after taxes. I know because I’m an AP subscriber myself) and the games seem to be mostly filled with teams that…..well they stink.
When the schedule makers made the schedule I’m pretty sure they had thoughts of Aaron Rodgers and Deshaun Watson dueling it out in their heads and not Tim Boyle or Joe Flacco.
With both QB’s most likely out for the season (Watson is on IR with a fractured shoulder, while Rodgers tore his Achilles), the “draw and appeal” of the game has lost its meaning to the league and advertisers.
The Cleveland Browns are currently 7-4 and are in the thick of the AFC playoff race as they currently are sitting in one of the three Wildcard spots.
The New York Jets are 4-7 and have an extremely long shot to make the playoffs.
To the surprise of many, including myself, the NFL decided not to flex the game out, and instead keep it, as originally scheduled.
The Jets at the Browns will remain on TNF.
