Devin Haney, the undisputed lightweight champion, intends to move up in weight classes. He will vacate the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO belts earned at 135 pounds before the upcoming fight against Regis Prograis for the junior welterweight championship at 140 pounds on December 9, as reported by Mike Coppinger of ESPN.

Haney earned his status as the undisputed lightweight champion with a win over Vasiliy Lomachenko in May. He also defeated George Kambosos in two separate fights.

Shakur Stevenson is set to be the WBC lightweight title champ after defeating Edwin De Los Santos, while Kambosos and Lomachenko vie for the IBF title in their upcoming bout.

Gervonta Davis is already the WBA “regular” champ and will move into Haney’s spot as champion. The WBO title situation is less certain, potentially leading to a match between Denys Berinchyk and Isaac Cruz. Having dominated his lightweight competition.

Haney now shifts focus after a 30-0 record, facing Prograis, who holds a formidable 29-1 record with 24 knockouts. Prograis poses a significant challenge with his power, testing Haney as he aims to progress to another weight class, but will Haney out class Regis?

“I did everything at 135 that I could,” Haney said Wednesday.

“The biggest fight for me was making that Gervonta Davis fight, and his side showed no interest in making the fight. I’ve outgrown the division, so now I make my quest to 140 to become a two-division champion. And after this fight, I look to become a three-division champion and move up to 147, God willing that I’m successful in this fight.” -Devin Haney
