Ohio State Makes a Change to the 2024 Football Schedule

In a release from the Athletic Department, the Ohio State Buckeyes football team has a new opponent for its opening game.

The Buckeyes were scheduled to take on the University of Southern Mississippi in Columbus, now, they will take on the Akron Zips instead.

This will be the 10th all-time meeting between the two teams.

The Buckeyes lead the series 8-1.

The move is interesting, because it now means that Ohio State will play a “Group of Five” school, from the state of Ohio, in the next four straight seasons.

Akron Zips in 2024, Ohio Bobcats in 2025, Kent State in 2026, and Bowling Green in 2027.

All 4 schools are in the MAC (Mid-American Conference).

The Ohio State Buckeyes will kick off the 2024 football season on August 31st.

Time and channel are TBD.
