Florida State football quarterback Jordan Travis appeared to sustain a significant injury to his lower left leg during the first quarter against North Alabama at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday.
The injury occurred when Travis was crossing mid-field and got tackled awkwardly on a 17-yard run in the third drive of the game. Immediately the crowd fell into silence as FSU physicians and trainers promptly attended to him, and after being down for several minutes, he was taken off the field on a cart.
North Alabama initially took a 13-0 lead, Florida State responded with an impressive 58 unanswered points, maintaining their undefeated 11-0 record.
Amidst chants of “Jordan Travis” from fans, both teams gathered at midfield to comfort Travis before he was transported to an ambulance.
Appreciative of the support, he later cheered on his teammates from his hospital bed. With the Seminoles trailing 13-0, backup quarterback Tate Rodemaker stepped in and led the team to a 58-13 victory, completing 13 of 23 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns.
Coach Mike Norvell expressed his desire for Travis to have a special final game at Doak S. Campbell Stadium, but did not provide an update on the quarterback’s injury; all we know is that it appears to be broken.
Florida State is set to face in-state rival Florida in the next week.
