The Oakland Athletics are uncertain about exactly when their future location will be ready, but in 2028 they’ll become the City of Las Vegas’ inaugural Major League Baseball team.
MLB owners unanimously approved A’s owner John Fisher’s relocation proposal from Oakland to Las Vegas.
The A’s will continue playing in the Oakland Coliseum until 2024. They are expected to make a permanent move to a $1.5 billion facility on the Las Vegas Strip in 2028. During the interim, they plan to play in various locations, including Summerlin, Oracle Park in San Francisco, and possibly the Coliseum.
The decision, although tough for passionate A’s fans, is seen as beneficial for the game by some MLB owners. The move aims to boost the franchise’s value, but a protective provision now taxes Fisher heavily if he sells the team for a quick profit.
Meanwhile, Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao expresses disappointment but hints at lobbying for MLB expansion candidacy. We want to hear from Oakland and Las Vegas MLB fans!
