The up and down performance of the Buffalo Bills leaves us wondering who they are this season.
The Bills have been all over the board this season. It’s hard to know what to make of them but they’re now sitting at .500 and their playoff hopes may be hanging by a thread.

I think most of us were mildly surprised when the Bills lost to a Zach Wilson led Jets team in week one but you don’t read too much into the first game of the season. Sure enough they turned around and had a decisive win over the Raiders in week two, followed by another over the Commanders. In week four they brought the Dolphins back down to earth after the butt stomping they gave the Broncos. At this point we had to think they were who they have been the last few seasons.

When they fell to the Jags however I thought you could chalk that up to injuries sustained against the Dolphins. They beat the Giants as expected but then they fell to the Patriots. They took care of the Buccaneers before falling to the Bengals in a game that wasn’t quite the whipping.

Buffalo then followed that up with a loss to the Broncos. To be fair that could say more about the Broncos than the Bills after all the Broncos did beat the Chiefs in their second meeting. However, the Chiefs gave them a pretty big assist with an uncharacteristic amount of turnovers which gave Denver really good field possession on their 3 scoring drives. It was also a division game against a team they hadn’t beaten in years so they certainly had extra motivation.

The Bills organization is evidently concerned because they let their offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey go. The Bills lead the league in both interceptions and total turnovers. not exactly sought after stats.

The Bills still have some challenging matchups on their schedule with the Chiefs, Eagles and the Cowboys plus division games against the Jets and the Dolphins again.
Buffalo doesn’t have much margin for error at this point if they want to make the playoffs. The good news for the Bills is there are a handful of other AFC teams in the same position.
Either way right now they’re not looking like the Bills we are used to and it’s not a given they’ll make the playoffs by any stretch of the imagination.
