Las Vegas — The Raiders (5-5) improved to 2-0 under interim coach Antonio Pierce.

After a late fumble by Jacobs, Robert Spillane intercepted Zach Wilson’s pass at the Las Vegas 15 with 1:14 left and, after the Raiders punted, Wilson’s Hail Mary on the final play of the game was broken up to preserve the 16-12 victory Sunday night.

Josh Jacobs broke his 100-yard dry spell, rushing for 116 yards on 27 attempts to conclude a 14-game streak without a 100-yard performance.

In the previous week against the New York Giants, the reigning rushing champion came close but fell short, reaching 98 yards before a 3-yard loss.

Aidan O’Connell threw for 153 yards, connecting with rookie Michael Mayer for the game’s sole touchdown, making him the second Raiders rookie quarterback to win two of his first three starts, following Mike Rae in 1976.

Despite being a rookie O’Connell’s poise and leadership has impressed teammates like Davante Adams, who emphasized his maturity in crucial situations. “I’m glad he is our guy” said Adams.

The game was tied at 9-9 with three field goals each when O’Connell’s 7-yard touchdown pass to Mayer in the fourth quarter secured the Raiders’ 16-9 victory.

After just two weeks with Antonio Pierce, this team has new life.

A tough smash mouth running game on offense and what looks like the Raiders defense of old lead by Middle Linebacker Robert Spillane and Star Defensive End Maxx Crosby.
