Sunday’s meeting between the Chiefs and the Dolphins was expected by many to be a high scoring affair.
While the Chiefs’ offensive struggles have not been unnoticed Miami’s defense has been lacking. Miami’s high power offense was expected to put up some large numbers in spite of the fact they haven’t done well against the better defenses they have faced.

What we got was something quite different.
The Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill was largely quiet on Sunday’s game ultimately giving up a fumble to the Chiefs’ defense who capitalized on it with quick thinking from Chiefs’ safety Mike Edwards and the even quicker feet of Bryan Cook who took it to the house for a defensive score.
After that it was all defense for the Kansas City Chiefs who wouldn’t score again for the remainder of the game.

Even with the Chiefs’ offensive struggles the Dolphins were never really in the game until Defensive Tackle Chris Jones gave them a gift with an easily avoidable penalty which ultimately resulted in the 2nd and final score for the Dolphins.
The Dolphins gave more energy in the 2nd half, but a fumble by Tua Tagovailoa ultimately ended the game with the Chiefs never having given up their early lead.

This all leaves us us with some questions.
Who are the Chiefs on offense?
They have been less than stellar all season but Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid is adamant he has the right pieces in place.
A few players show flashes of brilliance but some question why their promising rookie receiver isn’t used more and why Kadarius Toney who was so explosive last season, isn’t used more effectively.

Can the Dolphins beat strong teams? When they play a good defense they tend to sputter. The Chiefs shut them out in the first half. The first team to accomplish that in 40 games.
The Eagles held them below 20 points and Bills didn’t let them pass 20 total points. In order to really contend they have to be able to beat good teams.
The Chiefs are entering the toughest part of their schedule and it’s hard to say how they will hold up against teams like the Eagles and Bengals when they meet.
It’s equally uncertain if a team like the Dolphins can hang around in the playoffs if they can’t secure wins against the league’s top teams.
With question marks hanging over other teams like the Bengals and the Bills, it will certainly be interesting to see how the two teams do moving forward into the 2023-24 NFL season.
