On Friday afternoon it was announced that the Blue Jays, and Whit Merrifield, both declined an $18 million mutual option for the 2024 MLB season.

Merrifield has been in the league for eight years , spending his career with both the Kansas City Royals and the Toronto Blue Jays.

The outfielder/ second baseman , has played in 1,052 games throughout his career and has a batting split of .284/.330/.420. Merrifield has 1,184 hits, 247 doubles, 26 triples, 90 homers, and 470 RBIs. He has a total of 201 stolen bases, and struck out 722 times (averaging less than a strikeout per game, .68 times per game)
