On Friday news came out that. Felix Verdejo, was handed down consecutive life sentences for the brutal murder of his 27 year old pregnant girlfriend.

The boxer was found guilty in July, and sentenced yesterday by a federal judge, after emotional speeches from the victim Keishla Rodriguez’s family. His attorney says they plan to appeal.

According to the AP, during the trial this past summer co-conspirator Luis Antonio Cadiz:

Feliz punched her and injected her with a toxic substance before tying her limbs to cinderblocks and throwing her off a busy bridge into a lagoon in broad daylight.

Cadiz anonymously tipped police to the dump site where the body was found. She was found to have fentanyl and xylazine in her system (which was used to sedate her).

Verdejo was an Olympic contestant in 2012 and became pro later that year finishing with a record of 27-2 ultimately.

This case has stunned Puerto Rico and highlighted the need for better protection regarding to domestic violence cases.
