Week 5 of the 2023-2024 College Football season saw high power offenses in some games to defensive battles in others. We saw historical offensive numbers in one conference game and a Hall of Fame coach, get honored at home.
I’m here to give you, the good, the bad, and the ugly of this past week.
The Good.
#13 LSU at #20 Ole Miss
The Bayou Bengals came into town to take on the Rebels. 66,703 fans witnessed these two teams put up historical numbers. 104 combined points. 1,343 yards of total offense. 14 touchdowns. Points went up at such a dizzying pace, you didn’t even wanna take a bathroom break. You didn’t know what would happen in your absence.
When the clock finally read triple 0’s, the Ole Miss Rebels were victorious 55-49.
Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart went 26/39 for 389 yards and 4 TD’s. His counterpart LSU QB Jayden Daniels went 27/36 for 414 yards and 4 TD’s. Both scored a running TD as well. Dart 7 carries for 50 yards, while Daniels had 15 carries for 99 yards.
It wasn’t all about the QB’s though. Both teams had HB’s go over 100 yards. Ole Miss HB Quinshon Judkins had 33 rushes for 177 yards and 1 TD. He wasn’t alone either. Backup HB Ulysses Bentley IV, had 9 rushes for 90 yards and a TD of his own. LSU was led in rushing by HB Logan Diggs, who had 19 rushes for 101 yards and 2 TD’s.
Both teams had 2 WR’s break the century mark as well. Leading the Rebels was WR Tre Harris had 8 catches for 153 yards and 1 TD. Joining him in the fun was WR Jordan Watkins had 5 catches for 103 yards and 1 TD. Over on the other sideline, LSU was led by WR Brian Thomas Jr, who had 8 catches for 124 yards and 3 big TD’s. WR Malik Nabers had 8 catches of his own, for 102 yards.
This was an Instant Classic.
The Bad.
Baylor at UCF
44,005 fans watched their UFC Knights squander a 35-7 lead in the 3rd quarter, letting the visiting Bears score 29 unanswered points to win 36-35.
The win was the largest comeback in Baylor football history. It was also the largest comeback allowed in UCF football history.
The Ugly.
Buffalo at Akron
5,490 people watched a game that seemed like neither team wanted to win at times.
The best I can say about this game, is that the punters combined to have 5 of the 12 total punts, land inside the 20.
It was just ugly.
The Good.
Kentucky HB Ray Davis had career high 280 yards rushing, on 26 carries and 3 TD’s.
The Bad.
The Colorado Buffaloes and the USC Trojans defense. There were holes so big, you could’ve driven a Belaz 75710 through them.
The Ugly.
The QB play by Louisville Cardinal Jack Plummer and NC State Wolfpack Brennan Armstrong. They threw a combined 4 INTs and had QBR ratings of 37.0 and 14.2.
The Good.
Georgia TE Brock Bowers had 8 catches for 157 yards and the game winning TD.
He is simply the best TE in College Football and a future Top 10 pick in the upcoming draft.
The Bad.
UConn had the game tying PAT blocked to lose the game against Utah State. The Huskies remain winless this season at 0-5.
The Ugly.
The final score of the Wagner at Rutgers game.
I know, I know. It’s a FBS school vs a FCS school, but come on.
52-3.
It’s not like the Scarlet Knights are any good really.
